The Dream of Getting Your Home Organized – the reality of real life.

The Dream of Getting Your Home Organized
– the reality of real life.

Why is it so so so hard to get our homes organized?

We know the stats. Getting organized can relieve stress, save money, and improve relationships.

For most of us (unless your weird like me) getting organized is overwhelming, time-consuming and something we'll get to when...

Your home being an organized,
sanctuary that feels calm, collected and grounded is your big dream. Saved images of perfectly organized closets and pantries fill your Pinterest feed, inspiration hits you everyday on Instagram, and YouTubers tell you how to do it!

So, what's the deal?

The last email, I talked about how raised cortisol levels can be a culprit. But, what if, like Justin Welsh describes in his blog, it's the weight of the dream that is holding us back?

What if it's the pressure of the inaction of trying to create that perfect image playing in our minds?

We can blame time, the kids, the spouse but, what if, in reality it's none of those things and they are just excuses? "Along with the weight of dreams, there's also the pressure of 'doing' the dream well. And the longer you wait to start something, the better it has to be when you finally do it." (Justin Welsh)

But...

What if it's deeper. What if there's a hidden FEAR. A hidden anxiety. Something in the room or area or emotionally that you are avoiding.

What if you just need a little help? A little hand-holding until you see momentum. What if one little step could keep the dream alive? Wanna try together?

Since, it's tax season and it's something you MUST do, let's start there. I know for me, it's overwhelming me and becoming clutter. So, let's tackle this together! Right now, my staging zone for financial tax papers is my kitchen table. Go ahead, pick your paper staging area and let the family know -- "Don't touch, I'm organizing our taxes!". I have to have my papers organized and numbers ready for my accountant by early March, so there's no time to waste. Let's do this!

GATHER any and all paper or digital receipts, tax documents, W-2's, 1099's, etc. you think might have the slightest thing to do with taxes. Sort into categories that make sense with how you or your accountant does your taxes. Take 15-30 minutes. Put on some fun music or the Olympics. Don't overthink. If you find later that a receipt or bill doesn't have to do with taxes, we can simply shred it and move on! It doesn't have to be perfect!!!

Personally, I keep all of our taxes in an easy to carry, clear, plastic bin with pink (of course!) file folders labeled by year. (I am an amazon affiliate and may receive a teeny tiny commission so small I have yet to actually get a check from them.) Go ahead and acquire something like that to help you GATHER and keep all your tax documents in one place. Then when tax season is over, it's easy to put away and store out of sight.

I promise you'll start to feel better about your taxes by simply getting the ball rolling. Next week, we'll tackle another small step. Go ahead. Take on little step. Here's to making our dreams come true this year!

Also, the last email, for some reason, KIT, my CRM, sent out a draft version of my email instead of the real thing. I was so embarrassed! If you'd like to read the REAL newsletter. The polished, beautiful version, click here.

Release and Renew. A couple of Saturdays ago, I hosted a webinar unexpectedly with my baby in a hotel room with an incredibly full heart. Why? Because some of my dear friends and I had a conversation about the surprising mental and emotional benefits of decluttering — and I wish you could have been there. Because something happened that I didn’t fully expect. Not a big organizing tip.Not a color-coded system. Not the perfect bin recommendation. Instead… We started talking about why it’s so...

I didn't expect this to be so hard. Sometimes letting go isn’t about clutter—it’s about identity. Hi beautiful friend, This week, I froze in my office. Not because I didn’t know what to do…but because I knew exactly what I should do—and didn’t want to. Dylan was napping. The house was quiet. And I was standing there in my office, staring at my theatre books. 🎭 My beloved Tennessee Williams.Chekhov.Shakespeare. Books that carried me through my years as an actor. Books that gave me confidence,...

I am a crazy person. I obsess over every single item I come across at a client's organizing project. I sort and categorize every item—from a pair of pants to a tube of lip gloss. Then I review every item we've unearthed with the client who hired me. Keep.Trash.Donate.Relocate. I’ll lay awake at night thinking through possible Tetris combinations for where to put a category. Should it go in this drawer or that cabinet? Is that how my client functions in the space? Will they love it or hate it?If...
